| Me and Orson Welles FilmTuesday 3rd November 2009
Eddi will be appearing in the film "Me And Orson Welles", which is out in cinemas nationwide on December 4th.
Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra are to be seen on the silver screen this month. Set mostly in the legendary Mercury Theatre on New York's 41st Street, the story centres on Orson Welles' daring 1937 production of Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' and the involvement of a young aspiring actor in the show. Me and Orson Welles includes a stellar cast: teen sensation Zac Efron (High School Musical), Claire Danes (Romeo + Juliet), Ben Chaplin (Dorian Gray), and cinema screen debutant Christian McKay as an extraordinary, young Orson Welles at the peak of his creativity – and power.
Jools and the Rhythm & Blues Orchestra accompany chanteuse Eddi Reader in a swinging ballroom scene with Zac Efron and Claire Danes, vividly re-creating the tone and style of Manhattan's thrilling entertainment world. The Isle of Man's historic (and beautifully restored) Gaiety Theatre was the venue for the show-within-a-show's performances and backstage scenes, standing in for Welles' Mercury Theatre. A New York street was constructed at Pinewood Studios, while other scenes were shot around London including the British Museum, (representing the interior of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art), Bloomsbury Square and Crystal Palace Park. The film is directed by Richard Linklater, of School of Rock fame.
The soundtrack album is released in December on Universal Records and features some of the classic artists of the era including Fred Astaire, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Louis Armstrong. In such venerable company sits the musical collaboration between Jools, the Orchestra and Eddi Reader, immortalised on three tracks: Let's Pretend That There's a Moon; I Surrender Dear; and You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want To Do It).
